Located in Newton (Newton Center), Chesley Road Bed and Breakfast is within a 10-minute drive of Boston College and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Additional amenities at this Victorian bed & breakfast include complimentary wireless Internet access, a television in a common area, and a picnic area. Pamper yourself with onsite massages or take in the view from a terrace and a garden. Our stay was great, but make sure you call ahead they will do the best they can.Featured amenities include luggage storage, microwave in a common area, and refrigerator in a common area. They are wonderful people, and do everything they can to make the guests comfortable. It's going to take a lot of work and a b-jillion dollars to bring this hotel into the 21st century, but I commend their efforts and feel kind of bad for the employees while it is happening. It was cheerful and comfortable, even though the jack-hammer noise was ever-present during daytime hours.
We even hung out in the lobby lounge for a while after that waiting for our daughter to come back.

We took full advantage of the late check out at 12:00. I am guessing the trail runs all the way into Cambridge. You can also drive and park there, I think. My daughter was there for job interviews, and had the car on Monday morning, so my husband and I walked about a half mile (maybe more) down the road (to the left as you exit the property) to enter the beautiful trails that run along the Charles River.
Alcoholic drinks are on the honor system, you write down what you use and they charge your room, I think. We enjoyed all the amenities that came with the concierge room-free breakfast in the dining room and the concierge lounge on our floor with all its complementary food and drinks. We probably interacted with about 15 employees of the hotel and they were beyond friendly and helpful. My husband and daughter thought the shower was awesome. It is not a vacation resort, but I think that's what some of the reviewers are accustomed to. Beds and pillows are VERY comfortable! The new room and hallway decorating is not especially trendy, but it is probably just right for the bulk of the guests, who are business people. We had a perfect location overlooking the Charles River.
As you know, the Boston area is VERY expensive and in high demand, so book early! My husband, adult daughter and I were in a room with 2 queen beds and it was very comfortable and smelled clean. Of course all pricing depends on what's going on in town and at the hotel, so there is a wide range on that. During the week I think it would be at least $100 more. Rooms were a bit more expensive, but our stay was on a slow Sunday night, so it didn't break the bank. Narrowing this info down took some doing, but the people on the phones were very helpful in staying with me until we got a confirmation that I could definitely have a renovated room. I didn't book far in advance, so the only floor where they could guarantee us a renovated room was the 7th floor, which is the concierge floor. The hotel seems to be about half-way through a complete renovation. Because of all the detailed reviews online, I knew it would be important to get a renovated room.
